Daybreak, the dawn flowed over the silent grounds of the massive school. The reflection of the gray sky rippled on the surface of the lake. No sound was to be heard other than the light wind and the call of morning birds in the trees behind him. The sun tried to poke its way through the clouds but was quickly covered again. He gazed at the sky and thought that it might rain at some point before lunch.
Al wasn't even sure he would return to the school for lunch. It was a Saturday, after all, and he could do almost anything he wished. He had safely tucked away his homework, dressed early, and skipped the Great Hall. He wasn't in the mood for a large crowd, or even any sort of food at the moment. His mind was on other things. He was thinking about the Detention he had served with an older Ravenclaw girl. Al had spent several nights in his cold dorm with his thoughts firmly placed on the girl he called Bayleaf. He didn't know what else to think about since everything flowed back to that night spent in the Forbidden Forest.
He sighed and turned his eyes to the glassy waters that hardly moved with the wind. There were rumors that a Giant Squid lived in those dark waters. Liaz had heard that all manner of creatures actually called the lake home. He had never seen anything other than migrating ducks, and a flock of geese. On the far side he knew that there were frogs in the high willows, but he never saw any signed of the squid. Al wondered if it was just tales that the other Slytherin told to scare the younger students. He had even spent several hours in the common room watching out of the bubble glass window that showed the depths of the lake. He never stayed long though, there was always someone there that didn't agree with Al's way of thinking. This happened sometimes.
He bent his knees and wrapped his arms around his legs. He rested his chin on his knee tips and watched the waters. This was his favorite spot when sitting by the lake. Today was the perfect day to relax with his thoughts and try to sort through his building emotions. Like a whirlwind his insides seemed to swirl as the confusion moved through him. He smiled softly and tried to calm himself. Outwardly he looked just like a student enjoying a cool night by the waters. Inside he was an electrically charged ball of butterflies in flight. Was this the way life was meant to be?
Al just wasn't sure.
