He shows everyone he meets with the same friendly disposition, at least until they give him a reason not to, which does happen quite often. However, when that doesn't happen, anyone who allows themselves to become friends with Sig is able to get to know him better. Those who do quickly learn that he is a very kind soul who, when he makes a friend, is as loyal as they come. He's always there for any of his friends who need him. He's very tolerant of annoying habits and tendencies. He's also incredibly patient and quick to forgive. Sig's incredibly protective of his friends and family. He was taught by his parents that he should avoid violence, if at all possible, and he does. However, hurting someone he cares about is definitely cause to break that rule, in his book. Now one would probably ask, why, if he's such an awesome friend, why some people would pass on a friendship. Well, the answer is very simple. Sig's a pretty weird guy. He was very awkward and nerdy in his early years at Hogwarts, and that led to him being eccentric, nerdy, and socially withdrawn in recent years. He has very macabre and obscene tastes and interests and a very blue sense of humor. Sig has a tendency to say certain things, make certain jokes, that make some people uncomfortable. So much so that he withdraws socially. He doesn't, exactly, go out of his way to avoid social interaction, but he doesn't go out of his way to meet people either. He usually just spends his free time with the friends he manages to keep or off on his own somewhere. If anyone ventures over and talks to him, he is happy to entertain, but doesn't hold out any hope. Rarely, when he hears people conversing about a common interest, he will chime in, but, as for friends, he has what he desires. In most instances, Sig has a very calm, serene demeanor. He's very much a go with the flow sort of person. Genetically inherited from his father, Sig's temperament is almost always on the happier side of stoic. Except for a few specific things, it's nearly impossible to get a rise out of him at all. However, those few things do tend to rattle him quite a bit. For example, crowds, nothing inherently distressing to Sig, but, have them focus their attention on him and expect him to give a speech about, and he turns into a stammering mess. He doesn't really like being the center of attention. The only exceptions to this rule are when he's playing quidditch or when he's attending to his duties as a prefect. Flying around at such high speeds, the spectators seem like one, big, multi-colored blur. The only things that matter to him are the other players and the bludgers. When he's guiding first years to the basement, or making his rounds, he doesn't feel as much pressure. Eleven year olds are much less intimidating to him. Sig is very capable and confident in the areas where he feels comfortable, hand-to-hand combat, quidditch, wilderness survival, marksmanship, certain charms etc. However, when it comes to things that he isn't so comfortable with, Sig tends to struggle quite a bit. For example, Sig has a very hard time learning certain offensive spells, like hexes and curses. As a result, his dueling skills have been very lacking. This, and a few other areas where he's lacking, gives him some issues with self-doubt, mainly that he won't be able to protect his friends and family. He tries his hardest to improve, but, for him, the battle is very uphill. Concerning quidditch and many other things, Sig is a wonderful sportsman. He's not so much concerned with winning or losing and can appreciate talent when he sees it. He celebrates every victory and takes every defeat as an opportunity to grow as both a player and as a person. His only goals in each game are to walk on to the pitch bringing everything he has and to always do a little bit better than he did the last time. This may not make him the best quidditch player, but it certainly makes him a very formidable opponent. In addition to his good qualities, Sig is also incredibly trustworthy. When someone comes to him with something to say in confidence, it stays between Sig and whomever comes to him, no exceptions. His tolerance goes hand-in-hand with this quality. He doesn't judge people when they come to him, regardless of what is troubling them. He possessed qualities that could have easily landed in Ravenclaw or even Gryffindor, but it was that, along with his capacity for kindness, compassion, patience, and tolerance that had him sorted into Hufflepuff, and he wears his colors proudly. HISTORY Sigmund Bernhard Ofdensen was born in Oslo, Norway at a hospital near his father's family home, the same city where his parents met just a few years prior to his birth. Before her last name was Ofdensen, Keavy McLoughlin came from a long line of Irish wizards that started during the Viking invasions and settling of Dublin, Ireland. In her youth, she was fascinated by the stories of her lineage, inspiring her to travel the Scandinavian countries after she graduated from Hogwarts. It was when she visited Norway that Keavy met Sgt. Torbjorn Ofdensen of the Norwegian Special Forces. The two were in love almost instantly, and, within a few years, they were married with Sig on the way. She had told Torbjorn about the wizarding world almost a year before they were married, which he had agreed to keep secret from his side of the family. The two of them agreed that, while they would maintain a permanent address in Dublin in order for Keavy to pursue a career as an auror, the family would often make visits to Torbjorn's family in Oslo. His sister would be born three years later. During his former years, Sig, while knowing about magic, attended a muggle school and was taught, by his father, about muggle culture, until he got his letter from Hogwarts at the age of eleven. His father, the soldier that he was, insisted that he teach Sig how to survive in the wilderness and defend himself without magic. JOHN - TWENTY-THREE - EST(UTC-5:00) - MALE It started with hikes and moved on to camping trips. Torbjorn taught Sig how to build a campsite, start a proper fire, learn what roots, plants, and berries he could eat. When he was seven, Torbjorn started teaching Sig how to fight. Being in the Norwegian special forces, Torbjorn was taught enough about martial arts to defend himself, and, given the kind of experiences their family had with blood purists over the years, he wanted to start passing on his knowledge to Sig as soon as he could. By the time he was eleven, Sig was no stranger to the kind of prejudice that was geared toward magical-muggle relationships. Their family had endured their share of abuse. Most of it was verbal, but there was the occasional attack who tried to curse them, and all were promptly fought off by Keavy and Torbjorn. When Sig got to Hogwarts, his parents weren't there to protect him, and he, being very meek as a young boy, was an easy target for older bullies. His father had taught him how to fight, but the proper mindset that went along with fighting wasn't natural to him. However, nothing he endured during his first two years at Hogwarts would compare with what was to come after The Battle of Hogwarts. The summer between his second and third years was a very chaotic time in Sig's life. Keavy and Torbjorn, wanting to protect their children, agreed to divorce. Their divorce was a ruse so that Sig and his sister would have a safe place to stay when they weren't at Hogwarts. They were meant to live with Torbjorn in a remote location in rural Norway. A perfect place to take the next step in Sig's training, how to hunt. At first, he was very hesitant to even fire a gun, let alone kill an animal. Torbjorn was very hard on Sig. He knew that things at Hogwarts were about to get much harder for Sig, and his sister would be starting a year after that. It took him almost the entire summer, but Sig made his first kill, and the deer he killed fed him, his father, and his sister for three days. It took him a week or two for everything to set in when he got back to Hogwarts. He endured a few hexes and a couple black eyes. Things got so much worse when Snape took over as head master. It took him seeing a dear friend tormented, surrounded by a group of older boys, tears pouring down his cheeks, for his training to truly take hold. To this day, Sig still is not sure exactly how or at what point it happened. Next thing he knew, the three older boys were doubled over on the ground. The current captain of the Hufflepuff quidditch team saw everything, and advised Sig to try out as a beater. He made the team as a reserve beater, working up to the first string a year later. The Battle of Hogwarts was one of the last times he ever saw his mother. She had apparently joined up with Order shortly before hand. Their defeat had lit a fire inside of him like nothing else could. The summer before his fourth year Sig pushed himself to train harder than he ever had before. He promised himself that he would be as prepared as he could, to protect his sister, and take up his mother's cause. He became even more protective as the years went on. He had to get stronger. He had to get better. He joined the DA and the dueling club. With his new purpose he may be expelled at any time. He might as well get as much practice as he could before that happened. He never missed an opportunity to come to the aid of a student being bullied, which was probably what got him his prefect's badge in his fifth year, the same year he started training to become an animagus. He tries to keep himself as under the radar as he can, if only to keep eyes on the younger, half-blood students at Hogwarts, but his mind is made up. As soon as he's out of Hogwarts, he's joining his mother in the fight against Voldemort. Currently, he's researching different charms to place on heavy clothing and firearms in order to give any squibs and muggle relations a fighting chance, incase any death eaters come upon them. There have been occasions where his experiments and inventions backfire, but he continues to press onward. |
