HOGWARTS PROFESSORS
amycus carrow
THE RECORDS BIRTH DATE: August 22, 1964 FORMER HOUSE: Slytherin BLOOD STATUS: Pureblood ABILITIES: Dark Arts, Duelling WAND: 11" Ebony with Dragon Heartstring core FAMILY: Alecto (sister), Flora, Hestia (distant) Overview Amycus Carrow is known for many things. He is known for being belligerent, even detrimental to the health of others. He is known for carrying a chip on his shoulder the size of Wales. He is known for teaching his vast knowledge of Dark Arts. And he is known as not being the brightest tool box in the shed. As a child, he had a temper that condoned pulling wings off of flies, kicking dogs that didn't bow to his mastery and a penchant for popping the heads off of flowers. As he grew up, his behavior only worsened. At Hogwarts, he was openly hostile, ignoring the rules and crossing the line between what was civil and what was completely out of bounds. As an adult, almost nothing has changed. Amycus is still as cruel and sadistic as ever, preferring to hex first and ask questions later. He enjoys inflicting pain onto others, especially young students, getting the kick out of seeing them squirm. He'd even admit to getting a magical high from torture. Amycus is by no means a large man, with dark hair and eyes and pale skin. He is not known to be a smiling face, but more like a grimace. Traits... Explosive Temper -- Amycus is known for his temper. When he was a young boy, he was apt to rip the wings off of butterflies and cut the heads off of flowers. Now that he is older, he has an even shorter fuse. When he feels like someone is insulting his intelligence, he is prone to blowing up. By blowing up, he acts with his wand and temper first and doesn't even care about the consequences. This is what makes him a dangerous person. There are times he doesn't even realize what he has done in a moment of anger. Sadistic -- His temper isn't the only thing he has for him, or against. Amycus has mastered the Dark Arts. He is perfectly capable of using them. He loves torture. He gets a magical high off of inflicting pain on others. He has a personal hatred towards Hufflepuffs from his Hogwarts days and those students tend to get the brunt of his ire. He also enjoys teaching his sadistic hexes to willing participants who are more than capable of using what he teaches them against others. He loves to terrorize and show his power over others and who better than helpless, thankless students? Lacks Basic Human Emotions -- Amycus is unmoved by just about any excuse. He doesn't like pity. He doesn't take kindly to strangers. He doesn't appreciate being lied to. He abhors dishonesty. He is unable to feel compassion because it makes him feel weak. When he feels weak, he gets frustrated, leading to his explosive temper and his sadism. He has high expectations for his students, especially when he expects them to not only understand the Dark Arts he teaches, but to use them on others. And while he doesn't fully disrespect all women, he disrespects many. He magically transported a dead magpie to the dead of his Hogwarts crush, likely scaring the living hell out of her for being stalked by someone that liked transporting headless birds. Cowardice -- Amycus is known to run for the hills at the first sign of trouble. He is not above protecting his own skin. He can fool himself into saying he is doing it to survive to fight another day, but that would be a bald-faced lie. He did run away with his sister, Alecto, after the first fall of Lord Voldemort. Pretty much anyone that is anyone in the Death Eater ranks knows that the Carrows will run again. If faced with death, he'll choose to run than stand his ground. Unintelligent -- Amycus barely passed his Hogwarts education. It was something of a miracle he was able to pass anything at all. At Hogwarts, even Hufflepuffs mocked him for lacking basic knowledge. This led to Amycus ditching class and hanging down in the dungeons, ignoring authority and toeing the line to what was appropriate and what wasn't. He doesn't like to think for himself and gets dangerous when one questions the fact that he doesn't exactly have the brains for the operation. Belligerent -- Amycus lacks respect for those he considers beneath him. Anyone that isn't a Death Eater, staff member, Slytherin alumni or anything of the sort is on his disrespected list and will suffer at his hands should he get the chance. He is rude and sharp-tongued and enjoys flinging insults around. One might suspect this is how he was spoken to when he was younger and he doesn't know any better. Power -- Amycus likes his position in the Death Eaters. He likes the position of Deputy Headmaster while Professor Snape waffles on his loyalties. Amycus is just waiting for the day when Severus Snape breaks and he can take the reins and continue Lord Voldemort's Hogwarts agenda. Now that he's had a taste of power, he rather likes it. One would have to kill him to get him away from the power. Believes... In the Dark Arts, in Lord Voldemort, in the Death Eaters and, above all, in a future where all undesireables are trampled beneath the feet of the pureblooded. Superstitions... Amycus doesn't believe in anything in regards to superstitions, save blackbirds: ravens and crows. He does believe that crows are harbingers of both luck and misfortune and darkness. It could be one of the reasons why he doesn't torture them but will torture just about anything else. He does find crows as good luck. Ravens are, after all, considered royal birds and given his position in Voldemort's Death Eaters, his position has never been higher. Appreciates... - Students that take him seriously and are willing to take his lessons to heart. - Death Eaters that know their place and are willing to do what it takes to ensure that Magic is Might. Does Not Like... - Freeloaders... those that leech off of the power of others just to milk their own worth. Amycus sees the Malfoys as this. - Goody goodies... those that are always upbeat and happy are the first to earn a hex or a jinx from his wand. The World According To... When one asked him to solve a question as simple as "What do I use to feed fire newts with?" the student was turned upside down, violently shaken until they were violently ill and then covered in fire newts, which blistered the skin. He did this all without nary a trace of a smile or even blinking his eyes. Such is his character, a man possessed by the darkest soul, one able to turn against a student for even an innocent question. Better yet, he was perfectly content to leave the student hanging in the courtyard as a reminder to never betray his lack of intelligence by asking a question. This is the act of a man who is not only secure about his position, but isn't afraid to act out. Anna - 20s - USA - FemaleAmycus Carrow is not a tender, loving person. He rather enjoys being alone, though he is incredibly loyal and protective of his sister, Alecto. There was a reason they both survived and it was because he took the high road, escaping and believing his master gone. It wasn't until their were rumors that Lord Voldemort had survived nearly killing Harry Potter that Amycus and Alecto returned to him. It wasn't long before they were both back in the Dark Lord's favor, though it was also known by other Death Eaters that the Carrows were cowards. Amycus prefers to think of it as 'surviving to fight another day' but realizes that he is a coward. Before then, Amycus was a young boy, raised with his sister. Both Carrows were raised by their parents, both solid Dark Arts masters, their mother a witch and their father a master duelling expert. By the time they reached Hogwarts, both were sorted into Slytherin. It was there that Amycus met others that thought the same way his parents did. As he and Alecto had been raised around other pureblood families, he was not prepared for meeting those that weren't pureblooded. Nor was he prepared to face just how evil some of them could be. Amycus was not a model student. He was cold-shouldered and often skipped classes, preferring to hang out in the dungeons or practice duelling. He was on the Slytherin quidditch team just long enough to get the boot for poor grades, but he managed to sweet-talk his Head of House into letting him back on the team long enough for Hufflepuff to completely and utterly beat them. If that wasn't bad enough, their attacks turned personal, calling him, among other things: slow, stupid, dim-witted, vacuous... the list went on and on. Little did he know at the time that this would become a lifelong grudge and he would be almost giddy to turn the tables on those feeble-minded Hufflepuffs to show just how unintelligent he was. The Hufflepuffs were not the only ones to insult his lack of book smarts. His own classmates knew that he was a slow learner and someone not willing to put up with pity or being felt sorry for. Amycus would even admit that he would prefer failure to believing that he did not put his effort in, even if it was never his best effort. The only subject he actually did well at was Defense Against the Dark Arts. He had been working with other Slytherins in order to study the Dark Arts. What he didn't learn at Hogwarts, he learned from the Death Eaters during the First Wizarding War. After Hogwarts, Amycus and his sister joined the Death Eaters, believing that Lord Voldemort was the future of the Wizarding World. Both found support and their niche amongst the Death Eaters. This was the start of something good, to prove to his father that he was capable of being someone. Those hopes were dashed when Lord Voldemort failed to kill Harry Potter and he and Alecto were forced to run for their lives. They managed to maintain a low profile living outside the Wizarding World. He managed to live among the muggleborn until such time that he felt it safe to return to his roots. His parents shunned both he and his sister for being cowards, but Amycus argued the point until he was blue in the face. Nothing mattered, because his parents would go to the grave believing their children abandoned their Dark Lord in his greatest time of need. Once Lord Voldemort returned, very much alive, Amycus and Alecto returned to the fold. They were forgiven and granted the opportunity to serve the Dark Lord once more. This time, both of the Carrows were given positions at Hogwarts. Amycus found that his Dark Arts class was popular with Slytherin students and gave them every opportunity to excel. During the Second Wizarding War, Amycus came across Minerva McGonagall and was cursed by Harry Potter. After recovering, he returned to Hogwarts with not only a grudge against students, but against anyone that dared to side with that insipid Potter boy. He was also promoted to Deputy Headmaster after the Dark Lord revealed that Severus Snape's life was ticking down..... |
