Sticks crunched beneath the steps that Baylee took. To be perfectly honest, Baylee was scared, afraid of every noise that was made, and it didn't help that she was with another student whom she wasn't entirely comfortable with. He was a Slytherin after all... Baylee sighed. How in merlin's beard, did she end up in detention? This must have been the second time, maybe third, in all her years at Hogwarts. Such a rare occasion.
These were dark times that loomed over the castle, and really, being sent to the Forbidden Forest was not as bad as it used to be. Baylee turned to look at the company that she was with. A fifth year Slytherin whom struggled with Potions, which is exactly the reason they were both here... Baylee had agreed to tutor the student, upon the Professor's request, as it seemed the Slytherin was doing quite poorly. After Baylee had set up her equipment, and it appeared Al was struggling with his in which she helped him with, Al's potion had blown up in the potion's professors face, which ended up with detention for the both of them, which Baylee had wanted to argue, however, the Professor assured her, Baylee was in charge and shouldn't have happened on her watch. There was not point in arguing the matter.
Baylee turned away from the dark haired boy and continued to walk. What they were even doing in here was beyond her knowledge. Something about patrolling or getting eaten by some magical animal. It was quite frustrating, and Baylee was getting quite annoyed at the fact she was jumping at every single noise in the dark shadows. This time was better spent curled up in the Ravenclaw tower with a good book, but she knew she would be here for at least another hour, and that was if they didn't get lost.
She shivered slightly in the breeze, carefully taking in her surroundings as they walked aimlessly in the forest. She pulled her cloak tighter to her body, looking at the ground, bu it wasn't too long before a loud rustling sound emerged from the bushes to her left, in which left Baylee closed her eyes, squeaked quietly and almost jumped into the Slytherins arms!
Out of the bushes emerged a small blast-ended skrewt! She pointed her already lit wand at the animal, which appeared to be young, and watched it rustle back through the bush it had emerged from.
It didn't take long for Baylee to realize she was standing awkwardly close to Al, in which she jumped away, blushed and started to ramble an apology.
How embarrassing! He would never let Baylee live this down...

Moonlight peered through the rustling branches of the tall trees that surrounded the students. His eyes lifted to watch as shadows crept across his face. The small breeze raised his hair and touched off a slight chill on his exposed skin. He inhaled the air sharply, and let it run cool through his nose as he tried to remain calm. Al wasn't scared. In fact, they were rather close to the small little tree house he had built last year within the nestling branches of a smaller tree. He knew this area well, but well enough to know it wasn't exactly safe.
This exhilarated the younger student as he moved within the shadows of their raised wands. It was an adventure, and one he was sharing with another person instead of his normal wanderings in the forest alone. He had never thought he would be moving through the tall, dark trees with the girl whom he called Bayleaf. She was tall, thin, very pretty; everything about her made small flocks of butterflies dance in the pit of his tummy. Of course he had seen her before, during meals in the Great Hall mostly. Having her appointed to be his tutor had almost made him light headed. His fingers had been so nervous when he tried to set up his Potions kit. She had brushed his hand when she helped him and he had stepped away a bit too quickly. Baylee might not have noticed that movement, but she was well aware that he was trembling when he tried to follow her directions.
His distracted mind played over the scene as they walked deeper into the forest. He had cut the roots quickly and dropped them into the golden water that bubbled under his lit cauldron. His eyes danced for the thousandth time over to her as he attempted a small smile. It had been obvious to him that she didn't like him in the least. He had no idea why that hurt him as it had, but he swallowed and tried not to let it show on his blushing features. He was so flustered listening to her voice as she instructed him on the best way to stir. Her tone was like music that played a charming spell on his heart strings. His mind couldn't clear as he tried to figure out why she wouldn't like him. He was trying to be overly nice to her, and she was really cold to his attempts at small talk. He sighed and tried to stir his cauldron as she had done when the Professor spoke directly behind his back.
Al had jumped sending his wand up in the air to flip before his eyes. He reached to try to catch it, but had been so befuddled that he missed horribly. The tip fell to touch the smooth surface on the edge of his cheap cauldron. Another attempt to catch it missed as his eyes drifted to see what Bayleaf was doing. It had been only another half second until the wand tipped into the cauldron and touched the liquid within. The explosion sent the hot oils over Al's head and onto the new robes of their teacher. The boom sent Al to the floor in a ball of confusion. He had destroyed his cauldron, and splintered his wand. When his eyes lifted to see if he had hurt anyone his glance connected with the girl...
A news brought him out of his thoughts and he aimed his wand at the rustling foliage. He sighed lightly as the small animal moved across their path with only a passing glance. He hardly had time to notice the reaction of his detention companion before she had jumped away from him. His lips moved into a small smile, and he shook his head lightly. "No, don't apologize. I mean, after all, it is all my fault we are here. If I had been paying more attention to my work than I was to you, we would-" His mouth snapped shut and he looked away quickly. He had said too much, and a small blush moved over his pale features. He had never intended to tell her he had been looking at her more than what he was suppose to be doing. Maybe she would think he meant to say he was paying more attention to her working than he had been to her physically. She was a Ravenclaw though, and they were a sharp bunch. He knew the older girl would read right through him. Al had very little experience with girls, and relationships that went beyond little smiles, and holding hands in the darker parts of the castle. He imagined she hated him. Al sighed, and looked down to the ground.

Every moment seemed to tick by slowly. It was as if the forest was getting to her, the darkness, strange sounds... She even felt she heard a honking in the distance... Whatever that was, but she guessed her mind was playing trick on her.
Baylee was getting frustrated with the silence. Normally, she liked the silence, it completed her, allowed her to think, ponder and relax... But this was scary. She didn't want to show her weakness though. What if this was his ploy? Make her vulnerable, ditch her in the forest. That was one half blood out of the way at least. Baylee shook her head, her brown hair flowing lightly around her shoulders. She needed to stop thinking like this, as if everyone was out to get her. She needed to take a chance, he hadn't after all done anything to hurt her physically, nor mentally or emotionally for that matter. The worst he did, was call her Bay leaf on those few occasions, and really, that wasn't that bad... Maybe she should give the kid a break..
She listened, still blushing at the fact she pretty much jumped into his arms.... Looking at her instead of concentrating? He must mean the fact he was watching her with the whole potions method, making sure he didn't miss a step or something. She gave him a reassuring smile. She had messed up plenty of potions, and the practice was what made her so inclined to do well with Potions, trial and error, many times over.
"Please don't blame yourself. I used to be quite terrible at potions, and I've had my fare share of potions end with a boom. Trial and error, practice makes perfect... I'll be honest though, the look on the Professor's face was quite amusing when your potion blew up. I had to refrain myself from giggling, which I fear, would have put us in a worse situation.." She explained, a small giggle escaping. Her voice was soft and re-assuring. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy, in this instance anyway.
It really hadn't dawned on Baylee that there may be other reasons he would be looking at her instead, as Baylee never understood anything more than academics. Sad but true.
She continued on, one foot in front of the other. This was how she was dealing with this detention, one step at a time. She flashed a small smile again at the Slytherin. They all had their strengths, and Potions was not his, but what was? She knew nothing about him...
"We all have our strengths, mine being Potions, so tell me, what is your strength? What do you excel at? Or simply, tell me about yourself?" Baylee asked, unsure of the last part. He was a Slytherin, why exactly would he want to get to know Baylee? Why on earth would he even be talking to her? Smiling even in the presence of her? No other Slytherin did, really, all she ever saw was the end of their wands....
Baylee put her head down, embarrassed now by even asking the question, thinking he might be different. He was sorted into Slytherin for a reason, as she was for Ravenclaw. They had certain traits to suite those houses specifically. "Sorry. I thought it might help pass the time along... It's okay if you don't want to talk..." She mumbled, looking to her feel as the words left her pale pink lips.
They delved deeper into the forest. She hoped to god he knew his way back, because she certainly did not.

He slowly lifted his gaze as the shadows around them grew deeper. It was reassuring that she didn't completely blame him for getting them into this mess. He smiled when she mentioned almost giggling. He thought it would've been worth any trouble they'd share just to hear her giggle. He lost himself in her soft voice as the walked. Al blinked when she smiled at him. She was so dazzling.
He needed to get his head in check. There was no way a girl... a woman two years his senior, would have any interest in him whatsoever. Before he could say anything she continued speaking. She seemed hesitant when she spoke the last question, and he tilted his head trying to think what he might answer. Al was not used to anyone asking about him, or even being interested in what he was like. Then a small thought occurred to him. He darted ahead softly setting his feet on the path. He glanced around swiftly until he found a small palm-sized rock. He looked back up to her and then glanced back to the rock.
His hand began to circle slowly as his wand moved around the rock in his hand. His eyes almost glistened in the low light as he began to whisper softly. At first nothing appeared to happen, then the rock began to fld in on itself. One half elongated and sprouted what could only be a stem with leaves. The second half bend, twisted, and shifted into the form of a rose. Al lifted the stone rose up to examine it, and then he smiled. He slowly moved to where she was standing and presented it to her. His lips had parted into an almost child-like grin. "I think, sometimes, actions speak louder than words. I could tell you over and over again that I am a nice guy; but, you'll never believe me unless I show you. See, even an old rock can be something more than it seems... For you." Al smiled and made a small bow as he held out the rose. It was the most brave gesture he had ever made in his life. If, in this moment, she decided to scoff and ignore his "rose" then Al might be crushed in trying to impress any other girl for the rest of his life. Of course that wasn't entirely true, but as the color began to rise on his features he couldn't help but wonder what he would do if she laughed at him. Probably nothing, he'd had his feeling hurt many times since coming to the school. But she was different. He wasn't positive how he knew that, but for some reason her opinion of him mattered more to him than anyone else he knew that wasn't already a friend. The night drifted around them and several loud birds called out to each other somewhere deeper in the forest. Al lifted his eyes to look at Baylee, the girl he had known as Bayleaf since the moment he met her. Old witches would use the Bay Leaf to write wishes upon, then they would burn the herb over an open fire so those wishes would come true. Placing a Bay Leaf under a pillow could cause prophetic dreams. Carrying a Bay Leaf in a pouch would fight off dark magic. Maybe this was why Al felt so safe around her, the girl he would always know as Bayleaf. A dream girl? Perhaps, but for right now he was frozen in a moment that felt magical to him. A perapice to all things in the future, and many more to come. The dark forest was the furthest thing from his mind.

Many thoughts ran through the Ravenclaw's mind, some good, some not so much. She needed to relinquish them, and relax. She needed to take in the moment, and let down her defenses, just for one night at least. Baylee's brown eyes gazed to the shadows, and then looked to the Slytherin boy. At that moment, Baylee actually didn't mind that she wasn't in the Common Room, and she much preferred her presence to be with him, just to be able to open up. It wasn't long though, until she tensed back up and he guard was re-ignited.
Baylee watched him take off ahead of her, in which she stopped, and a worry set over her. For a split second before he stopped to pick up what appeared to be a rock, Baylee panicked. Was he finally leaving her to wander the forest for days? Did he finally get her to let her guard down so he could torture her, but as she watched him pick up the object, she calmed, and left out a sigh of relief.
She hadn't moved from her position, and her gaze lied on Al's actions. Nothing happened to the rock at first, but it didn't take long before it transformed. Transfiguration. That was his strength, and before long, something so dull, and cold, turned into something beautiful. A rose. She smiled at his talent, quite entranced by the transformation. Baylee pulled her hands up to her mouth with a little clap, a quiet squeal of excitement escaped, but she tried to contain her excitement.
As he began to walk to where she was still standing, amazing at what had just happened before her eyes, she noticed his child like grin, and to be honest, she thought it was kind of cute. While he spoke, Baylee let her shoulders relax. He explained to her that you can never really judge a book by it's cover. That nothing was ever how it seemed, but the way he spoke, gave her shivers up her spine. She blushed as he bowed and presented her the rose, and as if it were a natural movement, she let her hand fall to the rose, taking it from his, slightly brushing his hand in the process. Maybe he was a nice guy. Maybe she should trust him...
"That was quite extraordinary. It's a real talent you have there..." Baylee explained, the smile from her lips never leaving. She twirled the rose in her hand. Even she was not that skilled to do such transformations, and she did well at Transfiguration. She'd actually love to see more...
Her quiet voice soon spoke, as her gaze landed on the rose. "Cunning, ambitious, determined and clever..." She began to list these slowly. They were only a few of the popular traits of the Slytherin house. A smirk rose to her pink lips, and a teasing look was evident in her eye. "And how do I know your not trying to get me to let my guard down... Make me vulnerable..." She asked, slowly raising her gaze to meet his. She started to slowly walk, making sure his stride would begin to match hers. "Your quite a clever one... So there's no underlying plan?" She asked. Her voice represented teasing, but it was evident it was a test. What exactly was he playing at here?

Liaz smiled when she took the rose. He couldn't help but feel a little patter in his chest as his heart decided to speed up more than it should. He blushed a little more when she talked about the little trick he performed. When he was younger his family wouldn't allow toys in the house, Liaz spent most his life playing with sticks and rocks. His imagination was strong, and that translated well into Transfiguration spells. It came easy to him, even if his father called it a useless ability. He didn't think turning a rock into a rose was much of a talent, but he was pleased that she thought it was. He almost let a giggle escape his lips, but kept his excitement in check.
His heart slowly began to sink as she continued to speak, and he almost tripped over his feet to start walking when she did. He caught up with his eyes downcast and his brow furled. Al was disheartened to think she doubted his intentions. Was she so afraid to get to know someone that she would push him away before getting to know him? Was she so untrusting of people that he had no chance of getting to know her? Or, perhaps, it was simply that he was a Slytherin. That seemed really judgmental, and she didn't give him the impression that she was that sort. He had tried to tell her that you couldn't judge a book by its cover. Had he judged her by her cover in thinking she would be a nice person, and someone he would love to be able to talk to beyond Potions and Detention?
He blinked and frowned when she asked her final question. Al, like he usually had done in the past, thought quickly and acted fast. He stepped in front of her to halt their movements, and drew out his wand. His nimble hands pointed it at her as he looked into her eyes. Al remained silent for a moment to allow her to actually see him. With a small sigh he twirled the wand and offered her the handle. Al was handing her his wand. This was something no Slytherin would ever do, especially in the situation the two students were currently facing. Not having a wand would leave the younger student defenseless in the forest. Al never thought twice.
"I have no plan. I don't really know what I am doing from one moment to the next. I've lived all my life one day at a time, and I have no reason to be clever now. I don't think I am all that cunning. Hell, I can't even pass Potions without someone to hold my hand. I don't want you vulnerable. I would be really upset to think you're afraid, especially of me. I am not your enemy. Here, take this. Hold on to it for me until we get out of detention. Go ahead. Please." He looked at her and smiled softly. The butterflies moved around in his stomach even though his heart decided to slow down while he watched her. Al didn't know a person could have such an effect on him, but this older girl -woman- made him feel... different. He had no idea if she would believe him, and Al didn't know if he had the words to comfort her.
He nodded and held his wand out to her handle first.

The facial expressions changed on her detention partner, making her gaze fall to the ground. She didn't mean to offend him.. But she never meant to offend anyone. Usually, Baylee messed up introductions within the first 5 minutes, and that was when they decided to leave and give up, yet, here was this boy who was trying to make her see, and she couldn't even let her defenses down for 5 minutes and get to know him. Was she that silly? Incapable?
She ran a hand through her hair and let out a small sigh, the only thought running through her mind was 'Way to go Baylee.' It wasn't longer before he stepped in front of her path, halting her to a stop before she could cause them both to fall. What was he thinking? But acting fast, he had drawn out this wand. Baylee gasped slightly.. This was it, she was right. He was going to hex her here and now and leave her in the Forest for the wolves. A shiver ran down her spine, and though he had his wand pointing at her, Baylee couldn't find the strength to lift her own in defense. This was her issue. She remembered one time in her fourth year whilst they were practicing their dueling. Just another cruel way for the professors to inflict pain on the students, the only thing Baylee could muster, was one single bird, which was fat, and fell to the ground before it could even make it to her opponent. Which everyone laughed, and she was hexed into the Hospital wing.
Before Baylee could say anything, he made a quick movement, and soon held out the wand handle, to her. He was handing her his wand... Baylee couldn't understand it, but she knew it was nothing she had ever seen before. A Slytherin, giving up his wand. Whether your a Slytherin or not, you never hand someone else your wand, your leaving yourself completely defenseless.
Her mind raced with a thousand thoughts, and a confused look was evident on her face, which wasn't a normal thing. But then he spoke. He explained his thought process, his attributes, and asked her not to be afraid. It was something she still couldn't understand, but at that moment, Baylee felt safe.
She extended her hand, and wrapped her small fingers around the handle. It was a nice wand, but it jus didn't feel right holding it. It was comfortable, but there was something off, and that's when she realized, a wand chooses you, and this wand was begging to be back with it's owner.
"Al.." She began, still at a loss for words. "This is a very serious move. If I take this, you'll be defenseless whilst we are here, and we still have some time with detention. I won't lie to you, I'm hopeless when it comes to duelling, or even protecting myself. I can't protect you as well..." She explained, her voice soft, quiet and calm. She turned the wand once more and held the handle back to it's rightful owner.
"You've displayed something I have never seen before. I do apologize, I'm not the greatest at making friends, and you can now see why... I think I can trust you now... I must admit, you lasted longer than anyone else whose tried... I'm quite incapable. But for the life of me, I don't know why..." Baylee said this as a small smile rose to her lips. This was an ultimate display of power being relinquished, and it itself, was a magical thing.
She placed her rose in the inside of her robe, making sure she wouldn't lose it. She knew the girls in her dorm room would question her about such a gift, but at least now she can tell them, from a friend.

His heart paused for a moment when the silent span between them passed, then she began to speak. He voice floated through the air and seemed to instantly lift his spirits. He reached out a shaking hand and took his wand. He placed it away without thinking about it. A smile lifted his lips as he thought about this beautiful girl being as awkward around people as he was, and she was an adult. He blinked and turned to begin walking with her again. He didn't really know what to say to her, nor had he owned the words that might comfort her in the moment. It seemed that handing her wand was the right thing to do, and he had never done the right thing in his life.
Not to say Al was a bad person, he just normally expected the worst to happen when he was trying to talk to the opposite sex. He could be friends with anyone that took the time to get to know him. He was open, honest, and friendly. Liaz never judged anyone, and this was one reason he was an outcast in his house of Slytherin and at home with his family. What would the girl at his side say if she knew that his father locked him in the basement when he had to go home for the summer vacation? Would she even understand why Al was told to remain at the school for all the holidays? What would she think of him if she heard about the fact that his parents hadn't got him a present for his birthday since he started Durmstang? Did she even know he had started school there? He pressed such questions down and suppressed the idea if ever having to tell her such embarrassing things. He was ashamed of his life away from Hogwart's. He barely could stand going to his own common room while he was at school. Al pushed his hands into the pockets of his robes.
A sharp breeze rushed through the trees and fluttered his hair around his face. His robe lifted in the wind and the air seemed to howl around them. He inhaled sharply and put his head down against the current as the howl drowned out his thoughts. The breeze passed sending leaves flying around them as the trees blocked any light from the moon high above. Liaz glanced up and caught sight of it, a half moon; no danger there. However, the howling didn't die down with the breeze. He glanced to Baylee and then back to the small trail they had been following. His mind barely registered the thought that something was wrong before another howl joined the first. Wolves! A trap! Neither of the students were given a goal for detention, and Al had wondered what was in store for them. He guessed that it was merely a ploy to scare them into towing the line and going along with whatever those in power wished. Then the thought struck him and he put words to them.
"Bayleaf? I think they mean to murder us." Just as the words left his cold lips the two wolves moved out of the trees and unto the path. Al was quick, having taught himself that being fast made him less of a target. In a flash his wand was out and he reached into his other pocket to produce a small ball of clay. Another thought hit him as the two wolves watched them from down the dirt pathway, "They hunt in packs." It was almost a whisper and the creaking of breaking branches popped behind them. Three more of the large animals appeared down the path behind them. Liaz moved closer to Baylee, and held up his wand. His body bent almost into a crouch as he started to run his thumb through the clay. He almost stopped breathing as defensive spells started to form in his mind, his lips moving silently as he prepared to do anything he could to make sure Baylee lived past this night. Even if it meant sacrificing his own life, Baylee would be alright!
His lips moved into a small smirk.

Everything seemed to be silent for a moment. No words were spoken after, but he shakily took back his wand. Baylee let it go without a second thought, after all, it was not like her to take anothers wand. She closed her eyes, taking in the cool night around them, thoughts raced though her mind like a bullet raced through open air. She let her senses take over, her thoughts, her feelings... She appreciated the silent, because for once, it wasn't awkward. It just felt right.
They walked side by side, and it was obvious Al was deep in thought. Oh how Baylee would love to pry, but it wasn't her place. She'd only just begun to trust the boy, she can't know everything about him straight away, plus, Baylee loved to observe, so that's exactly what she would do.
She watched Al persistently as a strong breeze passed through, and she herself, had to hold her robes to contain any warmth that lay beneath. She didn't even know what time it was, but it sure felt around midnight. She watched as Al looked to the sky. She wondered what his thought process was. Was there something amiss? Baylee's held tilted back and observed the half moon, and it dawned on her. He was making sure it wasn't full. It made sense though, the more Baylee thought about it, the more she couldn't think of what exactly their punishment was... They had been requested to spend a few hours in the depths of the forest, and then to return to their appropriate houses upon completion. It didn't seem so bad to start off with, there was no purpose, just to walk around for a few hours out in the cold..
Before she could think about it any more, Al's voice rang through the silence. She hadn't noticed her surroundings, but as he spoke, she couldn't help but let her jaw drop slightly. Wolves? She thought. The pack had begun to form, and although Al had urged them to run, Baylee's legs would move. It was like they were cemented in place. As much as she willed, she couldn't get out of the way... More appeared behind them, and Baylee just couldn't register it. Was this going to be her last night? She didn't want to die this way... Not without finding out the truth of the disappearance of her mother.
She felt Al move closer to her, as if in a protective stance. Baylee's hand clutched her wand. She began thinking about wolves. What has she read about them? But she couldn't think, not under this life or death situation. Her grip tightened on her wand, and she looked at Al, noticing a smirk form on his lips. Did he enjoy this? Was this a thrill for him? She wondered just how sadistic he truly was, but was thankful that she gave his wand back, because as least now, they had a chance...
The more she racked her brains, the more it became foggy to her. Wolves.. wolves.. What were the damn facts about them! She remembered long ago from her father, that they used to be gentle creatures, and used to just scare the children away from the forest, however, since the new dark age had risen, she wondered if they had been affected. Were they now savage beings? She looked to Al again, fear evident on her features.
"What are we going to do?" Was all she could muster in a very quiet voice, careful not to make any sudden movements.

The Ravenclaw asked her question as Al moved a littler closer to her. His exposed arm touched hers as he lifted the clay in his hand. Two small balls of the sticky stuff rested on his palm. His eyes moved to her and he smiled softly. Liaz was not afraid, he knew that he could transform the clay into any number of things that could cause harm to the animals surrounding them. However, he had no desire -or stomach- for killing the wolves. His first thought was to form the clay into two gargoyles that would remain before and behind the two students. Perhaps a large stone wall that would assure that the creatures couldn't reach the pair. He imagined transfiguring the clay into dragon heads that he could then cast fire through to make it appear that the wolves were being attacked.
All these ideas ran through his head in the same time span as it took Baylee to ask her question. He moved to turn and look at the wolves behind them. If they tried to send a patronus for help would help come? Al doubted it, seriously. He couldn't produce one anyway, much less make on speak. He wondered if she could create one, but didn't think it would help. An idea formed on the currents of his mind. He glanced back to Baylee. "Unless they are being controlled by some outside force, I imagine they are guarding their turf, so to speak. Maybe we can send some sparks out and scare them away?" He moved closer to her so she can hear him whisper over the lifting wind. "I just hope they aren't hungry." He tried to joke, but it didn't sound too funny when he spoke it. He sighed and lightly nudged her arm.
"I'll take the three behind us, if you can get these two? Aim just over their head. Yes?" He remained in contact with her, his side now touching hers, as he turned so they were back to back. His back slowly pressed into hers as his mind slipped away into the realms of spell casting. Having spent hours alone in a basement, Al's imagination was sharp and clear. This helped him when it was time to cast spells and defend himself. He rarely became distracted and had the odd ability to see everything around him in crystal clarity. However, his actual spell knowledge was limited to some charms and a few jinxes. He mostly held Transfiguration in his arsenal. The few offensive spells he knew Al had mastered, but there wasn't many. He hoped it would be enough to protect them both. Liaz inhaled, and his lips moved into a smirk once again. He had never enjoyed fighting, nor was a big fan of confrontation. However, when it came to spell casting Al had always felt a thrill of making something from nothing. The strong desire to change himself fueled his abilities in Transfiguration, and when it was time to spring into action he might be limited but he was confident nonetheless. He dropped the clay balls and reached around his back to find Baylee's free hand. It was mere instincts as Al would never have made a move like that under other circumstances.
