The night was stormy and loud. Thunder Claps were roaring through the air. Lightening flashed the sky with bright white light every so often that it made it look like day light. Evelyn sat up in her bed as a thunder clap roared though the air. "Bloody hell that's some storm out there." She whispered to no one in particular. Heck everyone else appeared to be asleep soundly. So why did she wake up when the thunder roared through the sky and everyone else cloud sleep through it? Throwing the covers off of her she slipped on her slippers and robe and left the dorm room.
Walking out of the common room she went straight for the kitchens. Just as she tickled the pear a flash of lightning had hit the sky lighting up the hallway with a quick light. She entered the kitchen and saw that the house elves were quite happy to serve her. She asked them for a nice warm glass of milk and some chocolate chip cookies. She took a seat and after a few minutes wait she had her cookies and milk. She took a bite of the cookies and a sip of the warm milk just as she thought she had heard the door open. Quickly grabbing her milk and cookies she hid under the table and stayed quiet and hoping not to get caught.

What an abysmal night.
Even the weather reflected the foul temperament that Amycus held as he stormed down the corridors. Even the sconces along the walls seemed to shrink back from his ire. With all of the singing and the whispering and the laughing... the laughing! That was one of the worst offenses of them all!
He paused as he reached the kitchens. Even as he stood there, he heard the thunder. A slight snarl curled his lip as he pushed his way inside. Or, he would have if the stupid fruit bowl would have permitted him entry. He thought of just whipping out his wand to blast the damned thing into oblivion, but he held onto his temper. Taking a deep breath, he reached over, rubbing his hand over the tapestry. After a moment, the pear under the palm of his hand started to seize and laugh. He jerked his hand away as the pear transformed into a door knob.
Then he could finally push his way inside. The House Elves that were present did not look pleased to see him. A few actually stood in front of one of the tables while the others pushed forward.
This gave him pause... what did he want? Fire-roasted enemy heart over a spit of red-hot coals? Perhaps, but that didn't mean that the House Elves would oblige and grant him that one, tiny---
Was that... breathing he heard? Far be it for him to hear the sound despite the breathing and pleading of these insipid servants...
Amycus glowered down at the simpering beings and stalked between them, pushing them out of his way. "I can hear you," he said, his voice echoing in the space, talking over the Elves. "I know someone else is in here..."

Evelyn had no idea who would be up at this late at night. Leave it to be caught by a Professor. Part of her mind was hoping that if she did get caught it'd be by a nice Professor. Heck she wouldn't know what the bad Professor's would do. Heck she wasn't on duty so there goes that excuse but maybe just maybe that would work. But if it was one of the Carrows that wasn't going to work for some odd reason. She didn't like them and she thought they already knew that. She just hoped that this would end soon. She had realized that she was breathing a bit loud. She closed her eyes for a moment and tried to relaxed.
When she heard him say that he knew someone else was in here she wondered who that could be. Then it dawned on her. The other person was her. She was the other person he was talking about. How in the world did he know besides the fact that she was breathing hard. She could tell some of the house elves were blocking the table. The only problem was that he was blocking the door. She looked around trying to figure out how to get pass the Professor without being seen. Only problem was that there was no way to do that without being caught. Sure the table hid her well and she hoped that the house elves won't move from to do something for him. Sure enough she saw the house elves depart and she slid more into the darkness of the table and then bonked her head onto the table. "Ouch!" She whispered.

It didn't take Amycus longer than a few moments to realize that something was amiss here.
Rather, that the house elves were hiding someone.
And he was suspecting that whoever this someone was, it was someone that wasn't supposed to be here at this time of night.
Amycus couldn't help the grin that came to his face as his eyes shifted from the fireplace along the far wall over to the tables to his left. Just as he was about to take a step forward, a platter was thrust under his nose.
"Eats?"
Amycus drew back, his eyes widening at the foul-smelling bowl. It took him a moment to realize that they had distracted him on purpose. His hand reached into his robes and removed his wand. Calmly, patiently, he nudged the tray aside, glancing at the wide-eyed house elf with something akin to disbelief. Had this... thing... actually gotten in his way?
"I would not do that again," he said quietly, a single warning. The next time this happened, it would be a far more painful lesson. He wasn't above teaching lessons, even at this late hour. Even if his students were the insipid kitchen help.
Once the house elf stood aside, tray still in hand, Amycus turned to the table, running his wand along the edge. "If I were someone out of bed so late in the night, where would I be hiding?" he asked, his tone mocking and almost sing-song.

Evelyn was grateful for the storm. Maybe it'd help her just as much as the house elves might be trying to help. She wasn't asking them to do that they just knew she'd probably get into serious trouble with this guy. She took a deep breath and thought about a smell that was now coming through the kitchen. And the next thing she heard was Eats from a house elf and I would not do that again from the Professor that sounded not so nice. And she feared that she is most likely going to be in big trouble later for this. She had thought about going when the house elf gave him food but something had told her to stay put.
The next thing she knew she saw his feet at the table. And then his wand running along the edge. She heard his mocking sing song voice asking if he were someone were out of bed this late where would he hide. She bit her lip to keep herself from laughing at his sing song voice. Sure it was a bit kiddish for him to do that but then this guy probably was more child like than anything at the moment. Or that he just seemed like he wanted to have fun now. She wished that she had her prefect badge now because then she could use that for an excuse to be out. As it was she didn't. Nor could she summon the prefect badge. For one it'd show where she was hiding. Even though she knew that she was close to be found by this guy.
Any minute the guy could look down and catch her there on the floor. But she didn't seem to care. She just didn't want to be caught at the moment. She then saw what she thought what she had seen. She thought she saw one of the house elves rock back and forth like it was going to faint. Were they trying to help her get away? She had no idea if they were or not. But the next thing she knew was that it had fallen to the ground. And she wondered if the guy would turn towards the house elf or not. But then again he probably wouldn't so she was sort of stuck under the table. Still not tired though. She swallowed for a minute though and just stayed put praying that if he does catches her she'd be okay mentally.

This... this was getting maddening. Who in their right mind would resist the direct order of a Professor? And Amycus was Deputy Headmaster to boot. This was just... unwise. Amycus was used to people following his orders. He wasn't in this position of power just to look down his nose and ignore people. No... he commanded those around him and he expected those commands to be followed, even if it was by the kitchen help. As it was, these house elves weren't exactly jumping up and volunteering to help him. No, they seemed intent on getting in his way than to scurry away from him.
He was about to grab the table and use a levitating spell when the house elf closest to him collapsed, sending the tray of foul-smelling gruel flying in the air. The bowl landed and shattered. The tray landed and flipped over, creating such a ruckus. And the house elf on the floor was starting to twitch and seize.
Amycus turned his attention to the house elf, lowering his want and pointing it dead-center between the creature's eyes. "You will stop that," he said, keeping his voice as firm as he could. In the back of his mind, he knew that this was just a simple distraction, but he was going to make this one pay for it. For whatever was trying to fool him, they were going to learn what being out of bounds late in the night would do.
He kept his ear out for sounds behind him, but for the moment, he was perfectly content to threaten a house elf. A dozen curses came to mind, but little did he know that house elves had their own form of magic...

Evelyn eyes shut for a moment when she saw things fly into the air. Surely they were trying to protect her. But when she saw him point his wand dead center between the house elves eyes she thought he was done for. She couldn't let him take rap for her. That's for sure. No matter how hard they were trying to help her escape without any harm. If only she knew that this is the Carrow you don't want to mess with then she wouldn't have hid like she did. On the other hand Eve didn't want to be caught out of bed past curfew. Sure she had had duties earlier but not at this hour. They usually kept those for the other squad.
Just about when she thought things could get worst she decided she might as well face her fears. Fear is in a name of itself is it not? And sure she was a Hufflepuff but didn't stop her from being brave did it? And one of these days she was going to have to face those fears. And now was more then ever. She came out from being under the table. "Don't hurt the house elf. I didn't ask them to distract you so I could try to get out of here. I was just hoping you'd eat and get out of here and then go back up to my dorm." She admitted to the guy.
She looked at the guy with what she had hoped was a brave face. On the inside however she was totally scared. "Please don't hurt the house elf." She once again pleaded. "Hurt me just don't hurt that elf." She said just as all of the house elves that were in the kitchen except for the one on the floor scattered away and two came back and grabbed the one on the floor and scattered away. Leaving the two alone in the room.

It was the sudden childish voice behind him that caught his attention. He slowly lowered the wand, turning to face a young girl. He was unnmoved by her youthful face, but the strain in her voice, by the fact she held up her head so proudly, so defiantly...
But right now, that was beside the point. The other house elves had vanished now that his attention was on this insipid little girl. She was pleading for him to hurt her instead of hurting one of the house elves. His wand was down at his side now, but judging by the way his fingers tightened over the rod, it wouldn't be for long.
"Well, well," he said quietly, appraising her. "A student caught out of bed, out-of-bounds in the dead of night."
In the distance, thunder rumbled loud enough to be heard all the way in the kitchens.
But he was not moved by that innocent face. She had asked for her to be punished and he was more than willing to comply with her request. His wand was up before his mind could catch up. He gestured to the door with it. He was not willing to do it in this room, where their food was prepared. He may be a fool to some, but he was no idiot. "Move. Now."

Evelyn soon would wonder if it was a good idea to actually face her punishment now. The guy looked crazy and wild. She wasn't sure what to believe anymore. But then again she held her head high and proud. Yet she wondered if this was foolish but then again she was glad that he hadn't found out that she was scared silly inside. "Well done you figured that I'm a student caught out of bed. I wonder what else you can figure out?" She asked him boldly. She didn't know where this boldness was coming from but she was actually enjoying it.
She closed her eyes once she heard the thunder rumbled in the far distance. She didn't like that sound but she wasn't scared of Amycus Carrow. Well at least not yet. Anything bad could happen any moment and she had a feeling he was going to enjoy what he was about to do.
She saw that he had gestured her towards the door with his wand. She looked towards that direction and then back to him. She jumped a little bit when she heard him say move now. Taking a breath she walked towards the door. Wondering where she was going she stopped for a moment. "Where are we going if you don't mind me asking?" She asked him. She had her wand in her right hand but she had a feeling that he may just take her wand but she tucked it into her robe pocket. "Or you can just lead the way?" She asked him.

It was obvious to Amycus that this little girl did not know who he was. He was trying to get her out of the kitchens as to spare the House Elves from his dealing with an insolent child. Right now, she was being far more than insolent. Her yammering was starting to give him a headache. It didn't take much nowadays to give him a headache, but all he needed was that split second of mental agony in order to truly lose his cool. He didn't want to, at least not here. He needed to keep up appearances, after all.
"I think not." His voice was still quiet as he gestured forward. "You will walk ahead of me. And if you do not, I will drag you." His wand was in his hand and sent out a few green sparks as he spoke, knowing full well that its handler meant the words he spoke. "Unless you wish to spend the night in the dungeons under guard, you are being returned to the... Hufflepuff... common room."
He would have much rather preferred that the girl be subject to whatever horrors the Inquisitorial Squad would have for her... torture, mental plague, subjecting her to living nightmares... all of it sounded so good to him, but to offer her a smart choice to see if a Hufflepuff could really figure out what was the intelligent thing to do.

Evelyn looked at the guy who stood before her. The more she thought about it maybe she was getting lucky that he hadn't done anything torturous to her just yet. He probably would if she wouldn't do just what she was told. She let out a bit of a yawn. She was getting a bit sleepy at last. Maybe she had just needed a bit of excitement just to get her tired. Looking at the man before her she realized after a bit it was the deputy headmaster. She had let her imagination run away with her this whole entire time but then again maybe she was partly tired.
"Of course not." She said with a small frown. She had decided to try to mess with his head now for some odd reason. "Of course I'll walk ahead of you but I didn't know where I was going before hand so how was I supposed to know where I am going?" She asked him calmly. She would probably receive something for that remark but she wasn't sure. She jumped though when she saw the green sparks coming out of his wand. "Hello the Hufflepuff Common Room isn't that far from here. And not that far from the dungeons either but I rather go back to the Dorm Room thanks." She said as she made her way towards the door.
She then looked at him for a moment and then turned on her heals and walked off towards the Hufflepuff Common Room. How in the world did she talk back to him. She had probably figured her mind was half asleep and all that jazz. But once she got to her door of the common room she stopped for a moment. She looked at the portrait. It was empty. She tried pushing on it but it would not budge. "Um there's a slight problem Deputy Headmaster. The person in the portrait is gone. And when they are gone we can't get back in. So I can't get back in." She said with a small frown.

It was with an insufferable sigh and good deal of cursing inside the deepest corners of his mind that Amycus decided that the Hogwarts castle was against him. Small children did not need to be out of their rooms in the deepest part of night. Lightning flickered from what little gaps there were and thunder sounded, ominous and trembling. He felt the little chill at the base of his spine, his mind caustically wandering away for but a moment before the girl started speaking again. When she said that the portrait had disappeared, he turned to face the wall. "There is no portrait entrance, you insipid child," he managed to scoff, glaring at the barrels that obscured the wall behind it. Sure enough, there was an empty portrait next to the barrels. And, if he was not mistaken, there was the sound of a snicker coming from the portraits further down the darkened corridor. "Go on, then," he snapped, fighting off the urge to blast all of the barrels away from the wall. "Open your own common room door." He had never been inside the Hufflepuff Common Room. He was only aware that it was quiet, hidden in the basements, on the way to the kitchens and rather safe compared to the other rooms. He was also sure that it was protected against the violent elements outside. Well, if Amycus had his way, it wouldn't be for long. Then he realized that he was standing there, staring at the barrels again. "Well?" he grumbled. ((Hufflepuff Basement))
