Antonia kept her head down as she moved silently down the quiet village street, it was a Saturday morning and yet Antonia had only passed one or two shoppers that morning. She looked over her shoulder anxiously as she crossed the street towards The Three Broomsticks. Hogsmeade was known for attracting Snatchers and Death Eaters who were bored and looking for some simple form of entertainment. She had heard stories of shoppers being cursed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
It was a warm morning and Antonia smiled as the sun bathed the street in its warm embrace, it was rare she could enjoy the sunshine when she was tucked away in the dark hospital wing. In her right hand Antonia held her purchases; a small white notepad and quill.
Pushing the sturdy door to the Three Broomsticks open, Antonia was met with the welcoming smell of Butterbeer. She often frequented the Inn, it was one of the few places that remained somewhat unchanged. Madam Rosmerta had kept a firm hand on her buisness and so it was a refreshing place for any wary wizard to visit.
Antonia ordered a Butterbeer and found a quiet seat by the window, from her position she could look out on the quiet street and let the day pass her by. 221 WORDS TAGGED - Open NOTES THANK YOU MALIA TATE FROM ADOXOGRAPHY

Baylee awoke, her thoughts awry, a single sweat drop sliding down the left side of her forehead. She wiped it away, taking a deep breath, closing her eyes and clearing her thoughts. She hadn't stopped thinking about her mother since she received the owl advising her that she had gone missing. It was messing with Baylee's mind. She was unable to concentrate in class, not that anyone had noticed. She could do their classwork in her sleep, and that wasn't a secret.
She slipped out of the covers, remembering that it was due time for Hogsmeade. It was something Baylee loved dearly. To her, it symbolized hope, because no matter the evil that swept the likes of England, it was still joyful to attend and made all your horrible thoughts disappear, until the return to the castle that is.
As she dressed, slimming down her robes, her brown hair softly bouncing with every slight move that was made, she heard a call for the trip to Hogsmeade. There was no time for breakfast at this stage, and she would simply eat at the three broomsticks upon arrival.
Baylee entered Hogsmeade, taking in a deep breath as her closed her eyes. She was opening up her senses, taking everything in until the next visit could be made. Oh how she adored the smells that were present. As if on a mission, Baylee made her way directly to the Three Broomsticks, as it was apparent by the sounds of her stomach, that it was much needed. The night sleep before was a little too restless.
The door swung open, and Baylee entered, ordering a butter beer and slice of pumpkin pie as she sat in the corner, deep in the shadows. Baylee liked it this way. She was able to observe, and not converse. That was something she was never good at... She looked around, taking in her surroundings, and after a minute or so, her eyes landed on a young woman. A woman she knew. The school Matron. Thoughts began to flood her mind. Would she know anything about her mother? If it had anything to do with the evil surrounding them, would it be discussed between staff members that they had taken a student's parent, leaving them mother-less? Would it even be appropriate to ask? Would the matron tell on her and would Baylee get in trouble for prying, for blaming....
Baylee shook her head. No matter what, she needed to know.
As she downed her butter beer, she slowly, awkwardly, walked over to the woman. She played with her nails, looking at the floor until she reached the table ahead. Without looking up, Baylee found her words.
"Did you know, the brain operates on the same amount of power as a muggle 10 watt light bulb?"
Baylee mentally kicked herself. What was she thinking?

Antonia pulled out her new quill and notebook from the brown paper bag and opened it to a fresh new page. She thoughtfully began to jot down the items she needed for her store cupboard, which she had made a mental list of. Some she'd be able to purchase here, others she would need to ask Professor Snape to make. She disliked having to confer with most of the Professors, especially Professor Snape, who had the ability to send chills down her spine. There was something about his stare which made her feel as if he could see into her very soul.
She was in dire need of some more calming draught, it wasn't surprising, the amount of anxious students who visited her on the edge of a stress related break down was rising. The Carrows did not help matters. She scratched the words 'calming draught' into her book and paused thoughtfully, her eyes drifting back to the window, watching as two wizards argued outside of the Inn.
She didn't sense a presence beside her until, a voice broke into her thoughts.
"Did you know, the brain operates on the same amount of power as a muggle 10 watt light bulb?"
Antonia frowned and turned to look at the young girl who was speaking to her. She glanced nervously around the girl, looking to see if anyone had overheard the girls words. All seemed quiet and no one seemed particularly interested in either of them. With a sigh of relief Antonia gestured for the young girl to take a seat before leaning forward, 'I'd be careful about mentioning anything muggle related' she whispered, 'People have been singled out for much less recently.'
It was obvious the girl was a Hogwarts Student, one that Antonia could not recall seeing before in the hospital wing, but then she saw so many faces there, they often became a blur. 'Can I help you...?' She asked, trailing off as she did not know the girls name.

Baylee stood there, uncomfortable in her own right. Had anyone heard her? Was she that foolish? Many people would think so. Maybe it would serve her good, she could find her mother, they would take her to the same place right? And then they could bust out together. She refused to come to the acceptance she may have perished at the hands of the very thing that made Baylee special, magic.
Baylee finally looked up as the nurse spoke. Even she realised Baylee's mistake.
It seemed the nurse didn't recognize her, but Baylee didn't blame her. The last time Baylee was in the Hospital wing was in her 5th year when her Felix Felicis potion had taken a turn for the worst. She just wanted to get some confidence to talk to a boy she liked, and instead, ended up in the hospital wing. She has not since tried to concoct the time consuming potion.
Baylee took a seat as per instructions, he eyes directly on the table. What was she supposed to say right now? Just come right out and say it? Ofcourse not. That would be silly, would be foolish, and would be out of line.
Finally, Baylee looked up, her brown eyes wide with curiosity.
"I need to find my mother" Baylee blurted quietly, quickly.
'There goes that plan, Baylee. Play it cool... Yeah, as if she could ever play it cool.'

Antonia took a sip of her drink as she observed the girl, curiously noting the girls awkward behaviour. Usually, when student approached her in this manner, they were hiding some kind of embarrassing ailment. It would often take a while to prise the needed information from the student. From her experience it usually revolved around a spell or potion being made for personal gain and not for homework assignments. She had dealt with her fair share of potions meant for removing pimples and blemishes. Usually these types of potions went wrong due to hastiness and lack of skill.
She waited patiently, watching as the girl sat quietly before her. Whatever was concerning the girl, it didn't take long for her to blurt out the question that was worrying her. A crease crossed Antonia's forehead as she eyed the girl with confusion. She did not know anything about the girl, or her mother, why on earth would she think she could help?
Looking over her shoulder again, Antonia quickly leaned forward to speak, 'What do you mean?' she asked quietly, 'What's happened to your mother?'
Antonia could make an educated guess to her question, it was not unusual for witches and wizards to go missing, it was almost the norm nowadays. She doubted there was a wizarding family in this country who had not had someone go missing due to the new ministry. It did not, however explain why the girl had decided to approach her. It wasn't like Antonia had any influence in the ministry, she was just the school nurse.

Baylee sighed. What was she doing? She was taking this too far. What wold the school nurse know? Baylee fidgeted in the chair. She looked up once more. She liked the nurse. She liked how she helped people. Something Baylee admired.
"I'm sorry. I have been a little crazy since term started..." Baylee announced, a small smile coming to her red lips.
She looked out the window and watched as people walk past, some were busy, some were just catching up, laughing as if they didn't have a care in the world.
"My name is Baylee by the way. Baylee Linton. My mother has disappeared... My father is distraught. I just didn't know if maybe there was some talk about recent captures or such around the castle. I just want my mind at ease, but I doubt that will happen..." Baylee said, looking down at the table as soon as she made eye contact with a stranger outside.
"I do apologize... I'm not very good at the social scene. You'd think I should be after being at Hogwarts for so long, however, I'm slightly inept..." Baylee sighed.
"Can I get you another drink? Or something to eat at all?" It was the least she could offer after being so rude...
Baylee was quite parched. Maybe it was the nerves. She hadn't really conversed much, especially with the Nurse, but she seemed like a lovely lady. Baylee wouldn't mind getting to know her, maybe even a bit of training off her in Baylee's spare time. That would be quite a treat, after all, Baylee was certain she wanted to help people for the rest of her life, and maybe Nursing would be it.
"May I ask.... How did you get into Nursing?" Her eyes curiously peering at the woman sitting in front of her.

Antonia nodded as the girl spoke, she wasn't the only student who was reacting in unusual ways. Half the student population was suffering from the circumstances and she was dealing with a large number of anxious students who needed a good bout of calming draught. As the school nurse she not only dealt with physical injuries and illnesses, but she was becoming accustomed to being a friendly ear for nervous students.
Antonia smiled encouragingly as Baylee spoke, she wanted to tell her that everything would be ok and her mother would turn up safe and sound. She wanted to smooth over her worries and tell her that there was no need to worry, but that would be a lie. Antonia recalled the day her mother went missing. She was barely five years old, but that day was engrained on her mind. Her father had been restless all evening, he was a muggle and so couldn't go looking for her mother. It was only after an owl came from the Ministry did he learn that she had been targeted and killed by death eaters.
'Oh no, I'm fine thanks' Antonia replied, indicating to her half full glass, 'I'm afraid I can't offer you much advise Baylee,' Antonia began patiently, 'I'm sure you've heard and read the news, Wizards and Witches are going missing everyday and they can be extremely difficult to track down.' Antonia paused for a moment before continuing, '...as much as it pains me to say it Baylee, but there's a chance she might not come back and it would be incredibly dangerous for you to try to track her.' Antonia said softly, her dark eyes searching Baylee's face for any signs of her intentions. 'I'm not saying this to be cruel' she added.
With a smile Antonia thought about Baylees question, her fathers muggle girlfriend had been a nurse and in the holidays she would often spend time with her at her work, watching how she helped those in need. 'I have a family member in a similar career' Antonia answered, 'I suppose she inspired me and i've always liked a challenge' she said with a twinkle in her eye.

A sweet smell flooded Baylee's nostrils as she took a drink. She knew what she was getting herself into, without a doubt. Deep down, she knew her mother was never coming back. Deep down, she knew her mother was probably, her father knew this too.
She hadn't heard from her father in a few days, and she assumes he was out looking for her mother.
Baylee felt a calm fall over her whilst she was talking to the Hogwarts Nurse. Really, Baylee admired the woman. She did what a lot of people couldn't, and she gave so much to help others out. Like her mother, Baylee wished she could be half the woman Madam Conniford was...
The nurse spoke, and Baylee was intent on listening to her every word. Her head fell slightly as though the words the nurse had spoken had cut her like a knife. Baylee knew the nurse was right about her mother, but saying the words aloud made everything real.
She fought to keep the tears back. The memories Baylee help close to her... She looked to the nurse, her eyes clearly fighting back the tears... She whispered barely audible. "I know..."
She smiled as the nurse explained the interest in Nursing.
"That's beautiful... What you do I mean..." She explained, her voice small, but admirable.
"I think it's amazing... You wouldn't happen to need any help around the Hospital wing would you? I simply love studying, and it's coming to my last year... I haven't decided what to do after Hogwarts, but I know I would love to help others..." Baylee explained, fully expecting the nurse to decline the suggestion. Baylee felt as though she needed that woman role, and Madam Conniford reminded her much of her mother, in the sense of helping others. In all honesty, Baylee needed the presence of a strong woman, and Baylee had admired the nurse since her first year...
Baylee showed admiration in her eyes, but quickly looked to the table. "I'm sorry. That's probably not allowed. I just, I don't know... I've been quite lost lately..." Baylee admitted. She seemed to be quite fond and comforted with the nurse, something Baylee hadn't felt for awhile..

Puzzles, codes and potions fascinated Antonia, her mind was always hungry for a mystery to solve and working as a healer meant that she met many people filled with enigmas for her to solve. She guessed it was her Ravenclaw mind, that had steered her towards a career that engaged her brain, but her step mother had been a huge inspiration.
Antonia gazed at Baylee sadly, recognising the disappointment and hurt behind her eyes. She wished she could have been kinder or more encouraging, but she couldn't lie to the girl. A lie could be fatal to her, there would be no going back if she were to cross the path of a Death Eater or Snatcher.
She offered Baylee an encouraging smile, having the girl around the hospital wing would perhaps be a positive experience for her. Usually the wing was very peaceful and there was no reason why she couldn't have the girl observe her work and help with treatments under her supervision. It would also be a good way for her to keep an eye on the girl and make sure she didn't do anything drastic. There was no need for any blood to be spilt and if the girls mother was still alive, they would find out together a safe way.
'I think that's a wonderful idea' Antonia replied, 'you can observe some of my work and perhaps help me prepare and administer some treatments...some work experience would certainly help your application, should you decide you want to become a healer' she explained.
'Why don't you pop along to the hospital wing in your free time?' she asked, 'it might help take your mind off things' she said kindly.
